Everyone is aware that apples are healthy for us – full of nutrients and fiber…but it is good to know that unpeeled apples are great  for your teeth as well. They are mildly acidic, so they actually help brighten and cleanse the teeth. Think of it as a mild astringent.

Apples are the perfect thing to have after a meal (and preferably as a substitute to sugary desserts). They act like mini-toothbrushes when chewed…and have the potential to wear away stubborn stains if you eat them consistently. You can’t always brush your teeth while you are out and about…but you can always eat an apple!

Eating apples can also prevent all-day snacking by things you probably shouldn’t be eating. Apples = fiber to keep you full, less sugar on your teeth, and fewer calories as compared to other snacks. Perfect for those trying to watch their waistline.

So as the saying goes, an apple a day keeps the doctor away – but it may help keep the dentist away as well! That said though, don’t get carried away thinking you don’t have to brush your teeth anymore as long as you are eating apples. You still have to brush at least twice a day for two minutes at a time.
