Pretty much everyone knows what it feels like to get popcorn stuck between your teeth or along your gum lines. It can be very frustrating, not to mention uncomfortable, if you are unable to dislodge it. Plus, unlike many other foods, the hulls won’t just dissolve in time with your saliva.

The bad thing about this, is that if left stuck, it can create an abscess that can become filled with bacteria. This can then lead to a gum infection.

So…what are the best ways to remove popcorn?

1. Chew Gum

If you are not home and do not have access to your dental hygiene products, try chewing gum. It may be just what you need to remove the pesky popcorn pieces. Be sure to use sugar-free gum.

2. Use a Toothpick

Be extra careful not to poke or injure your gums. It is a good idea to use a mirror so that you can see exactly what you are doing…and where the popcorn is stuck.

3. Use Dental Floss

You should be flossing everyday even if you don’t have anything visible stuck between your teeth…but flossing when you have popcorn stuck in your teeth can bring quick relief!

4. Brush your Teeth

Be sure to rinse the bristles of your toothbrush well after you are done brushing so that you don’t bring the popcorn debris back into your mouth next time you brush.
